Blame should win Horse of the Year for 2010!

Now before the Daily Racing News inbox gets blasted with mail from Zenyatta fans first let me say I was and always have been a Zenyatta fan dating back to 2008 when she won the Vanity at Hollywood Park. When all the Rachel Alexandra fans came and went like the dust on a track during a dry summer day, I was already a Zenyatta fan and scoffed at their insanity!

2009 Horse of the year should have gone to Zenyatta and it was criminal that the award went to that flash in the pan, Rachel Alexandra, but the truth is that 2009 was the year Zenyatta should have won the title!

2010 was a soft season for Zenyatta who faced mediocre competition along the trail and was like an old heavyweight boxer being protected from the best fighters in an effort to keep a hold on the title for just one more fight. Truth is, if Zenyatta would have squared off against Goldikova in the Ladies Classic and won I think she would have been a lock for Horse of the Year. At the end of the day, if you want to be the champ you gotta beat the champ and that is exactly what Blame did. Both had one loss, finishing second in 2010, Zenyatta lost to Blame in the Breeders’ Cup Classic and Blame came in second to Haynesfield in the Jockey Club Gold Cup but just like the NFL and College Football you have to consider strength of schedule and who they beat to get to be in consideration for Horse of the Year.

If this is the case, then unfortunately my fellow Zenyatta fans, just like the Breeders’ Cup Classic, it’s a close finish at the wire with 1st) Blame, 2nd) Zenyatta.
