NBC Summer at Saratoga

Finally one of the major networks, NBC Sports is getting it right and running seven straight weekends of “Summer at Saratoga” with coverage beginning today, Saturday, July 23, with live coverage of the TVG Coaching Club American Oaks (gr. I). Summer at Saratoga will be live from 5-6 p.m. ET on NBC and includes the CCA Oaks for 3-year-old fillies as well as one undercard races.

The “Summer at Saratoga” series will air either on NBC or the VERSUS network. For those of you internationally with SKY, maybe one day SKY will figure out to include VERSUS Horse Racing along with the VERSUS Hockey Package since the VERSUS channel is not available on SKY.

The coverage will be hosted by Tom Hammond, along with retired jockey Gary Stevens, handicapper/morning line provider Mike Battaglia, and reporter Kenny Rice. NBC will take the race call from Saratoga track announcer Tom Durkin.

Additional programming will include a feature on jockey John Velazquez, who won the Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (gr. I) aboard Animal Kingdom and last year won the Coaching Club American Oaks aboard Devil May Care. There will also be a feature on the storied history of Saratoga.
